The extraction of the Piasentina Stone takes place in the Julian Pre-Alps in the so-called “Artisan District of Piasentina Stone”, an area of foothills in the north-east of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, that comprises the municipalities of Faedis, San Leonardo, San Pietro al Natisone, and Torreano, in the province of Udine.

At this time there are more than ten active quarries, which are opencast and operated in total respect for the surrounding environment. After the excavation, the area is returned to nature by restoring it to meadow and woodland.
